Why Kalamazoo County Birth Records/Indexes are restricted here:

Although there is no Michigan state law restricting birth indexes in the public domain, there is a state law restricting Michigan County Clerks from giving any information gleaned from birth records or indexes less than 100 years old unless the requester is record's subject, parent, heir, or legal representative.  The result is that microfilm of Kalamazoo County Birth Indexes to 1975 resides in many libraries, but the county clerk cannot, at present, release that information to all applicants.  Out of respect for the Kalamazoo County Clerk, this site has limited birth indexes to 1909.

Sec. 2882: . . .the state registrar or local registrar shall issue  . . .(b) If the live birth record is 100 or more years old, a certified copy of the live birth record to any applicant.
